The semester is almost over and SOAR has exceeded expectations: we've held a Halloween karaoke party and an 80s retro party, conducted a fund raiser, made blankets for the needy, and have two special programs planned for finals week. On top of all of this we are already discussing at least two major events for the Spring 2008 semester and are working hard to get our name out there in the IUP Community.
Although we have very dedicated and hard-working members who are obviously doing a great job, SOAR has stopped growing. Our regular weekly attendance is about a dozen students, and we're looking for more regular attendees. SOAR council is a great way to get involved in the substance-free community at IUP, make new friends, keep yourself busy, learn leadership skills and plan building-wide and campus-wide events. Although council meetings are held weekly, committee schedules are flexible and YOU can determine how involved you get and while being a part of SOAR requires some level of commitment, the experiences are invaluable and rewarding.
There is only one meeting left this semester, but please don't be shy! Next semester we will be planning great things and hope that you will join us on Sunday nights at 8pm in the first floor lounge in Wallace. If you can't make it to the weekly meetings but would still like to get involved in a committee that interests you, please don't hesitate to e-mail an officer or the head of the committee- we always appreciate helping hands!

Have a great winter break- we can't wait to see you in the spring!
